Community Connections #2
Due Date: 3/10/2016

Artist Name: Paul Behnke

Website: http://www.paulbehnke.net/paintings/

  • Color blocking
  • Vibrant colors
  • Contrast
  • Flat shapes but also shapes with dimension

Paul Behnke uses color blocking in each of his paintings. Although the shapes seems somewhat random the paintings are actually very cohesive. The colors all go together very well but they each stand on their own. Each painting uses a unique color scheme to give each a different mood to them.

Artist Name: Nancy Nicholson

  • attention to detail
  • great use of color/shades
  • Very precise linework
  • stained glass pieces
  • Various styles

Nancy Nicholson uses a variety of different styles in her paintings. Her attention to detail and intricacy in each of her paintings makes them spectacular. The stained glass pieces are my favorite mainly because usually I only see stained glass in the context of a church or synagogue and she puts this art into a whole new perspective. The ones that are streets have so much detail it looks fantastic.  Her light pieces are also really cool because I never saw anything like that beautiful and it’s a beautiful, unique form of art.

Community Connections #1

Due Date: 2/11/2016

Artist Name: Rosson Crow

Website: http://www.honorfraser.com/?s=artists&aid=1&eid=108

  • Vibrant Colors
  • Puts everyday things into a new perspective
  • Color blocking
  • Collage-Style
  • Very skilled with color

When I first looked at Rosson Crow’s work all I saw was the pop of blue color, after looking closer at some of her paintings I noticed that she is very good at shading. An entire picture is blue but she manipulates the different shades of blue to achieve the image she wants to portray. She also adds one or two “modern” elements that add a touch of color. For example in one of her blue pictures she has a woman’s hands with red painted nails. This contrasts with the painting but the way that she has it positioned makes it all more cohesive. Her ability to work with color and do shading really well really works to her advantage in her paintings.

Artist Name: Yokosay Yamamoto

Website: http://yoskay.com/section/296783-paintings.html

  • Asain culture intwined
  • Great use of color
  • Heads in different environments
  • Simplistic color scheme with a pop
  • Very intricate backgrounds

Yokosay Yamamoto does a fantastic job incorporating his culture into each one of his pieces, even if it’s only subtle. The paintings that include dragons in them are very detailed and always look fierce without looking overly vicious. He does a nice job bringing Asian-style artwork into a new prospective instead of the same traditional-style drawings that you see growing up. He also does a very good job making his paintings cohesive, for example his one painting is a man who has a cod on his head or a cod for a head I can’t quite figure it out, but he made the color scheme and everything work together very well so it doesn’t look strange but is in fact very pleasing to the eye. He also has very detailed backgrounds, he adds a texture to them and although it is subtle it really adds depth to the paintings.
